Orientation to Golf Basics for New & Beginning Golfers

Welcome to the game of Golf! The Orientation To Golf Basics (OTBG) player development program is designed to help beginner players feel comfortable and knowledgeable on the course and to assist them with establishing a Golf Handicap Index Number (GHIN).

Course Overview

OTBG is a six-week player development program. Each session is held at Bay Area golf courses, and the final session will be held on an 18-hole course. Getting the most out of the six-week session requires commitment, patience, and practice. The first week is mandatory, and there are no makeups. Players who miss a session are welcome to make up a missed play day during the following 6-week sessions.

Beginning golfers go out with a buddy to make up a foursome, and the buddy is a

resource during the golf round.

The experienced/returning golfer buddy will have a comfortable playing knowledge of that week’s focus

Annually an email goes out to all SOTL members with an outline/notice of the Player Development Program for the upcoming year with sign-up instructions.
